Beyond the Pale
His dad texted me to let me know that x is beyond the pale. He wanted me to call. I’ve been running his text through my head, trying to figure out what he means precisely. It’s a bit of an out dated phrase, but he is an old man. Google says, ‘outside of appropriate behavior’. It’s almost funny but horrible at the same time. Funny because him behaving unacceptably is the very reason I haven’t been speaking to him. Horrible because it seems that he’s out of his mind. His dad says he is not drinking. X probably thinks that him staying sober now is a testament to his love for me. It’s better for him to be sober for his own wellbeing but in relation to me I’m not swayed.
